FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Here are answers to some FAQs about my linguistic services:
How much does a translation cost?
There is no set rate for translation, though the price is usually calculated per source word (i.e. on the text to be translated). There are, however, plenty of variables that affect the price of a translation service, including the type of text, the industry, length, format, delivery date and urgency. This is why each quote is different and always customized, bearing in mind both the text to be translated and each client's needs and requests.
How long will it take for my translation to be ready?
On average, I can translate between 1,000 and 2,000 words per day according to the type of source text. The delivery date of the final text is determined on a case-by-case basis considering all the mentioned variables.
I would like to know whether my translation is correct, but I don't have the source text. What can I do?
Unfortunately, without the source text, I cannot revise, comparing the English version with the Italian translation. However, what I can do is carefully check the Italian version in terms of grammar and syntax with special attention to style, punctuation, typos and layout.
How can I send you the material to be translated/edited?
You can send me your content by writing to info@eptrad.com or by filling in the form on the Contacts page.
What file formats do you accept for the content to be translated?
Whenever possible, I kindly request you always provide the final version in an editable format of the files to be translated, which improves productivity and lowers costs. You can send me your document in the following formats: Word, OpenOffice, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, .txt, and formats compatible with common CAT tools. Here is the full list of the accepted file extensions: .doc, .docx, .odt, .txt, .rtf, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx, .html, .xliff, .sdlxliff, .json. For other formats, please do not hesitate to contact me, and I will do my best to meet your needs.
What is a CAT Tool?
CAT tools are "computer-assisted translation" software (not to be confused with machine translation!), which help a professional translator to work faster and manage several projects. While the translator is working, the software creates translation memories and glossaries that help ensure terminological consistency throughout the text; this is actually extremely helpful especially for very long and/or highly specialized industry documents with specific and recurring terms, which must absolutely be translated always in the same way to ensure clarity and precision. I have been working with the CAT tool Wordfast for years.
I already have a glossary of established terminology. Can you use that?
Absolutely! If you already have a terminological and lexical glossary that you would like me to use, go ahead and send it to me, and I will translate making use of it to create a translation perfectly in line with your linguistic needs.
How do you deliver the translated text?
I will deliver the document by email (or as we agree at the project start), keeping the same format of the source file.
What are your payment methods?
Clients who live in countries within the SEPA zone can make a payment in EUR by bank transfer. Clients who live in countries outside the SEPA zone can make a payment in EUR (preferred currency) or in USD via PayPal or Payoneer.

Please note: With the initial quote you will always receive a translation agreement with all the information about payment methods and times. For large projects, I generally request a deposit on the final fee and the division of the payment into installments, according to the methods and time frames to be agreed upon.
Can I have a full transcript of an audio/video file?
Of course! I can transcribe audio/video files into Italian, provided there is only one speaker, or if there are many speakers, they do not overlap, and the audio quality is good. You can send me your files in mp3, .mp4 or .wav format, and I will send you the full transcription in a Word file. If you have an audio/video file in English but you need the Italian transcription, I will have to translate it, for which I will apply an additional rate (always calculated per source word) over the price for Italian transcription only.
